Photogrammetric processing of the stereo pairs of photography generates three-dimensional information, which supplements traditional boat based hydrographic surveys.

The UK Hydrographic Office has been protecting safety of life at sea since 1795. The charts, which will initially be used for specific military exercises in Scotland, provide highly detailed information of the inter tidal zones, depth of water, seabed obstructions and coastal features such as sand dunes not provided by available topographic mapping. Aerial photography company Bluesky has supplied the UK Hydrographic Office with high-resolution coastal imagery to aid in the production of charts that accurately reproduce the rise and fall of the land in coastal zones.
